Look, I'll admit that I'm a sucker for Ben Folds, and I love his song "The Luckiest." It's sappy, yes, but I won't apologize, and neither should you. Sometimes we just don't have the words to tell our people how much we care about them, you know? And that's okay. Language is a construct and a limitation.
If you haven't heard the song, this particular quote (the bridge) comes right before the final verse:
"Next door, there's an old man who lived to his nineties and one day, passed away, in his sleep. And his wife, she stayed for a couple of days and passed away. I'm sorry, I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong, that I know that I am, I am, I am the luckiest."
I mean, really, Ben, punch me directly in my heart just a little harder. Jeez.
I drew this design completely by hand with pen and paper, then vectorized and digitally colored it. Also available as a 5x7 print here.
